Call for Entries: South African Clay Awards

The Rust-en-Vrede Gallery + Clay Museum was recently accepted as an affiliate member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), an organisation affiliated to UNESCO and devoted to Ceramics excellence. In response to the newly acquired IAC affiliation the Clay Museum’s curators have proposed a new biennale awards exhibition starting in November 2024, the South African Clay Awards. This exhibition will recognise ceramic excellence.

The works entered will be digitally presented to a panel of 10 national and international selectors chosen for their expertise in the field of ceramics. Highly acclaimed Kenyan born ceramist, Prof. Magdalene Odundo, Chancellor at the University for the Creative Arts in the United Kingdom will be one of the selectors.

A unique feature of the Clay Award is that the sponsored awards money will be equally shared between the creators of the 40 selected clay pieces that will be on display at the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery + Clay Museum from 2 November until 7 December 2024.

All South African artists working in clay are encouraged to enter the awards exhibition.  Entry is free and can be made online between 1 and 18 August 2024.

Details regarding rules for entry can be found on the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery website, www.rust-en-vrede.com

DEADLINE: 28th August 2024
