Brainstorming Topic Ideas as a Podcast Creative

As a creative who’s been in the podcasting industry, I know just how difficult it can get sometimes to come up with episode ideas that your audience will love and I can tell you for sure that it’s one huge problem for many podcasters in the industry and whatever niche at all. On many occasions, it comes off as trivial, at other times, you just can’t seem to lay your hands on the right topic.

In this article, we will be sharing a compilation of tips that can help you overcome this stumbling block, and ease your process.

How to brainstorm topic ideas for your podcast

Talk about a Problem in your Niche

It’s easy. What do people find difficult in your chosen niche? What do they need help to accomplish sometimes? What do they find challenging? Or more still, what’s the controversy in that niche? What in that niche makes them clench their fists in disagreement? Who knows, it could be that extreme.

Whatever comes to your head as answers to these questions can generate a list of topic ideas for you and your audience’s consumption.

Look out for Some Books in your Niche

I know you didn’t think about this. Many books have been written in your Niche. The authors of these books have carefully written down ideas and related stuff that your target audience would love to hear about regarding your niche.

For instance, if your podcast’s niche is finance, you could look up the internet for books that have been written about managing finances, budgeting, making money, investing, loans, and so much more.

Ask Your Audience

Sometimes it’s best to hear from the horse’s mouth. What do the people who listen to you want you to talk about? It can happen sometimes that your audience has a particular thing they’d love to hear you treat.

You can ask them to send in their ideas on your via your DM on socials, or even through your email newsletter; whichever way would work best. That way, you’re even more sure that you’re giving them what they want.

Try Inclusivity

You can try being inclusive. What do I mean? Think about whatever is ongoing or buzzing in your niche at the moment, or just whatever topic at all, and instead of tabling your perspective to your audience, you can twist things and table your audience’s perspective.

You can let them send in their thoughts or opinions and then discuss them with your audience by summing them to a point of rational reference. This way, your listeners know you value their opinion too and their perspectives equally.

Revisit your old Topics and give them a Twist

Go back to the previous episodes you’ve done in the past, especially those that generated the highest listens or engagements, or feedback, unwind them, twist them, or talk about them from a different dimension. This way you’re giving them their favorites in a new light. How about that?

Dear creative, blocks are not unusual, they happen sometimes, you just need to navigate through them with the right resources. Now tell me, were these tips helpful?

Drop what you think in the comments.
