One Minute Podcast Challenge
The “One Minute Podcast Challenge” kicked off at the beginning of the year as part of the second edition of the Free Podcast Production Program. This dynamic challenge aimed to celebrate Africa Podcast Day on February 12, 2024, showcasing podcasters’ creative flair, storytelling prowess, and unique perspectives within a concise one-minute timeframe. The judging evaluation was based on the aggregate number of likes, tags, and mentions the podcast gained on three social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X. This approach ensured impartial judging, irrespective of participants’ follower count.
The Challenge was supported by 9 supporters namely; Afripods, NaijaPodHub, Wokpa, Iknite, Mountain Hub, Civichive, Mzuzu Hub, Voice Verse and Podcasting In Africa.
Overall, the challenge had 26 entries and the winners were announced via social media on the 12th of February 2024 bringing to an end the successful challenge commemorating the Africa Podcast Day.
In conclusion, the “One Minute Podcast Challenge” successfully celebrated Africa Podcast Day, highlighting the continent’s vibrant podcasting talent. With impressive participation and engaging content, this initiative demonstrated the power of podcasting in sharing diverse perspectives and stories. We look forward to future continued growth in Africa’s podcasting community.
African Voiceover Day
The first of its kind; African Voiceover Day happened on the 5th of May 2024 with the theme; The “Voices of Africa” Africa Voiceover Day 2024 aimed to showcase the continent’s rich cultural diversity, celebrating the myriad languages, dialects, and narratives that define African identity.
This groundbreaking event with over 340 registrants was Initiated by a collaborative effort of industry leaders, Africa Voiceover Day aims to recognize and amplify the contributions of African voiceover artists to the global stage. It’s a day to inspire, educate, and connect, propelling African voice artists into the spotlight they deserve.
Moving on the African Voiceover Day is going to be recognized yearly by the African Community and celebrated by all. This would be a reminder of the talent and potential within Africa’s voiceover industry and foster collaboration, innovation, and empowerment among voice artists across the continent. We are earnestly looking forward to next year’s celebration of the African Voiceover Community.
APVA Community Hangout
As a community, APVA held its first physical community hangout. The event was led by APVA’s Country reps and assistants across the continent. The APVA Community Hangout was a gathering of audio creatives in their respective countries to foster connections, strengthen relationships, and promote a sense of belonging within the community and at large.
The APVA Community hangout happened in 3 locations; Abuja, Lagos, and Zambia.
Each location witnessed a remarkable turnout, showcasing the enthusiasm and eagerness of African audio creatives to connect and grow together. This is an initiative that will continuously be held at different points of the year for the APVA Community.
We’re also excited to announce that the APVA Community Hangout will return in 2025, with even more locations across Africa. Watch out for updates on dates, venues, and registration details. Whether you’re a seasoned podcaster, voiceover, spoken word artist or just starting out as audio-creative, we invite you to join us for an unforgettable experience.
The African Podcast and Voice Awards (APVA AWARDS 2024)
The APVA Awards made a remarkable impact for the third consecutive year, celebrating African voice creatives across the continent on September 28, 2024. This year’s theme, “King of The Game,” honored the dedication, resilience, and innovative storytelling of audio creatives, recognizing trailblazers, innovators, and emerging talents.
The awards ceremony concluded with a significant announcement by Bidemi Adedire, APVA’s Founder, revealing the decision to pause the APVA Awards and transition to a bi-annual or quadrennial format. This shift aims to evolve the event into a grand, in-person celebration hosted across African countries, surpassing the current watch party format.
The pause will enable APVA to intensify its efforts across various initiatives including:
• The African Podcast and Voice Academy, where we empower and educate future leaders in the audio space.
• The African Voices Script Repository (AVSR), a home for the unique stories and scripts that reflect our continent’s rich diversity and an opportunity to emerging voices to hone their skills
• Utukufu, celebrating the glory of African voices through #AfricaDay annually
• APVA Sounds, connecting our creativity through a 24/7 Podcast radio
• APVA Match, fostering collaboration between audio creatives and the world.
As APVA embarks on this transformative journey, we invite you to be part of our story. Through collaborations, partnerships, and collective encouragement, we’ll foster a vibrant community of African audio creatives, shaping a future filled with innovation, creativity, and success.

Awards Key Achievements
The APVA Awards 2024 captured the essence of inspiration, receiving an impressive 2,300 nominations across the podcast, voiceover, and spoken word categories.
The APVA Awards showcased nominees from diverse African nations, such as Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Egypt, Cameroon, and Rwanda, as well as participants from Australia and the USA.
Beyond geographical confines, the event hosted 10 watch parties in Seven countries: Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Cameroon and South Africa. This groundbreaking initiative strengthened the APVA Awards’ position as an industry leader and created a tapestry of unity and recognition that transcended borders. The collective talent and creativity of audio professionals made this experience truly remarkable.

Watch Parties
This year we had a total number of 10 watch parties in 7 Countries; Zambia, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Cameroon, South Africa and Uganda. These watch parties were stations to bond and have a great time while watching the awards ceremony. Thanks to our hosts for organizing a memorable event for the attendees.
