The African Podcast and Voice Awards are currently open for voting.

Social media is buzzing at the news of the announcement of the nominees for ‘The African Podcast and Voice (APVA) Awards’.

APVA was founded on 30 September 2021, with the aim to provide support for the ever-growing community of African voice talent including podcasters, voice-over artists, spoken word artists and poets.

On the 11th of April 2022 APVA called for nominations for their 2022 awards. And on the 21st of June released the list of nominees for this years’ awards. Voting opened on 1 July and will close on 20 July 2022.

Bidemi Adedire, founder of APVA says we shouldn’t have to wait for global recognition but instead create opportunities for us to showcase our greatness.

“It is time we tell African stories our own way, and not just tell them but celebrate every voice. The world is yet to grasp the beauty of our diversity and the audio industry has all of Africa’s beauty translated in sounds. If we don’t take control of this narrative, no one will. If we don’t celebrate ourselves, no one will”, she said.

Tony Doe, the Nigeria Country Representative, adds,” People like being recognized for the excellent work they do. I’m one of them. I believe that work that’s being appreciated inspires more great work”.

APVA’s Creative Partner, Tolulope Kolade, is excited for these awards as they help African audio creatives get well-deserved recognition for the efforts they have been putting into their craft. Tolulope also says this is an excellent way for podcasters to support each other and no doubt raises local and global awareness.

“For the first time, we can identify many talents from different African countries making a difference in the continent’s audio space. The Awards put Africa on the map concerning podcasting and voiceover artists,” said Tolulope.

Voting for the APVA Awards has been a great success, and the team has reported over 20 000 votes have been counted already.
