The world of podcasting is in a state of constant evolution. From its humble beginnings as a niche medium to its current status as a mainstream phenomenon, podcasting has undergone significant transformations over these past few years.
As the podcasting landscape continues to shift, it’s essential for podcasters to stay informed about the latest trends and innovations. Whether as an experienced podcaster or a beginner podcaster, understanding the trends that are shaping the industry can help you stay competitive, improve engagement, and build a loyal audience.
Now, what are some trends podcasters should watch out for?
- Video podcasting:
Video podcasts are becoming more popular, just as read in an article by Forbes; “Spotify reported a 140% increase in the number of video podcasts in its top 50 U.S. podcasts list in 2024 compared to 2023. Spotify now hosts more than 300,000 video podcast shows, and the number of creators publishing videos on a monthly basis increased 50% year-over-year, Spotify said.” Edison Research also states that about 84% of monthly podcast listeners consume podcasts with video, and about 71% actively watch the podcast while listening. So what are you waiting for? Hop on this trend and make it yours. Feed your audio listeners as well as your video subscribers.
- AI integration:
AI is everywhere so for sure expect it to pop up in podcasting too. This year and going on, it is predicted that AI will play a larger role in the media world to help creators and not necessarily to take their roles. No one can be as creative as you are.
- Short-form podcasts:
With increasingly busy lives and abundant content options and styles, listeners are seeking convenient, bite-sized, and easily digestible content hence the shift toward short-form podcasts.
- Content repurposing:
One podcast episode can be repurposed into 5 different content for promotional purposes. This is a skill every podcaster should up their game with. This would help Podcasters to repurpose content from a single recording session introducing diversity and a wider reach.
- Live podcasting events:
Who wouldn’t love to attend an in-person and remote live show organized by their favourite podcast? This is a trend that would become more popular and should be harnessed by podcasters to leverage on it to build a solid community from their podcast listeners and friends.
- Podcast Monetization Styles:
Monetization has been a challenge for a while. This year it is predicted that we should expect to see podcasters hacking the Monetization streams to help support their show.
- Value of Quality over Quantity:
In as much as being consistent is paramount. Podcasters with great-quality podcast episodes will do better. When we say quality, it goes from audio quality, content idea, storytelling skills, podcast engagement, creativity, and authentic promotions.
I sincerely hope that this list of trends will inspire you as a podcaster to position yourself to embrace the trends as a wealth of opportunities to grow, innovate, and connect better with your podcast audiences and take your podcast to the next level. Remember, even as the podcasting landscape continues to shift and evolve, one thing is clear: the future of podcasting is bright, and the possibilities are endless.
